About Daniel Varoujan
Daniel Varoujan (1884–1915) was a Western Armenian poet born near Sivas. He studied at the Moorat-Raphael College in Venice and Ghent University before returning to teach in Armenian communities of the Ottoman Empire.
Collections such as The Heart of the Race, Pagan Songs, and The Song of the Bread unite modern European influences with Armenian history, rural labor, and myth. Varoujan was arrested and murdered during the Armenian Genocide.
