About Misak Metsarents

Born Misak Metsaturian near Agn in the Ottoman Empire, Misak Metsarents studied in Sivas, Merzifon, and Constantinople. He began publishing poetry as a teenager and became an important new voice before tuberculosis ended his life at twenty-two.

His two lifetime collections, Rainbow and New Poems, combine Romantic and Symbolist influences with vivid attention to color, sound, landscape, and spiritual wonder. Metsarents helped renew Western Armenian lyric poetry and influenced later generations.
