About Paruyr Sevak
Paruyr Sevak (1924–1971), born Paruyr Ghazaryan, was an Armenian poet, translator, and literary critic and one of the defining literary voices of twentieth-century Armenia.
After studying philology in Yerevan and literature in Moscow, Sevak developed a direct, intellectually charged poetic style that joined personal emotion with history, culture, and national memory.
His landmark long poem The Incessant Bell-Tower is dedicated to Komitas and the memory of the Armenian Genocide. Sevak’s poetry remains central to Armenian literary and cultural life.
