About Petros Duryan

Petros Duryan was born in Constantinople and began writing plays and poems while still a teenager. He worked in the theatre as an actor and dramatist, but poverty and tuberculosis cut his life short at only twenty.

Despite his brief career, Duryan’s direct, intimate poems about love, suffering, mortality, and artistic longing marked a decisive turn in Western Armenian literature. His emotional candor and musical language continue to attract new readers.
