In a veranda sewn with drafts, set back from a village without electricity, the life of Matthias and an injured man who was entrusted to him just before winter is organized. Such was the agreement: the old man will ensure the remission of the youngest in exchange for firewood, food and, above all, a place in the convoy which will leave for the city in the spring.
The centimeters of snow accumulate and each day brings its share of challenges. Near the wood stove, the two individuals laboriously weave their complicity through conversations and visits from Joseph, Jonas, Jean, Jude, José and the beautiful Maria. Rumors of the village penetrate the meanders of the decor, the winter weighs, the tension is palpable. Will they hold out?
