Description
One beautiful, sunny day in Paris, a teacher from a small suburban village approached the commissioner, asking him to prove his innocence. An elderly woman, a former postal worker whom no one in the village liked, had been murdered. The villagers, however, could think of nothing better than to accuse the newcomer teacher, whose family had not integrated with them. This involved not only children but also adults. It quickly becomes clear that most people know exactly who the murderer is but stubbornly refuse to reveal crucial facts. The villagers have divided residents into "friends and enemies," and despite regular gatherings in the tavern, they immediately become defensive at the slightest threat. Maigret is forced to deal with the most dangerous suspects: minors. He himself grew up in a similar village and, noticing such moments in people's behavior and worldview at every turn, gradually, without rushing, uncovers the murder. Belgian writer Georges Simenon, a world-renowned representative of the psychological detective genre, is one of the most widely read authors of the 20th century. In 43 years, he published 425 books, 200 of which were under 16 pseudonyms and 220 under his real name. Simenon authored 75 novels and 28 short stories about police commissioner Maigret. The writer ranks 19th in the world for the number of translations; his works have been published in 55 languages in 39 countries.
