Description
Egyptian Muslims and Jews have not always had disagreements. They lived in harmony before the Arab-Israeli wars. This multi-faceted, deeply personal novel, set in the 1930s and 1960s, looks intimately but comprehensively at the peaceful coexistence of Muslims, Jews and Christians in Cairo. The novel tells the story of Galal, the son of a Jewish mother and a Muslim father, who spends his childhood and adolescence in the lively and beloved Daher district. Galal, who swims in the whirlpool of school love and adolescent rebellion, is Egyptian to the point of extinction.
