Norayr Sargsyan's novel The Third of the Republics offers a psychological portrait of Armenia's period of independence, interwoven with episodes of everyday reality. The narrative presents a mosaic of characteristic characters, familiar and repetitive daily life, and human interactions overshadowed by deceit and grandiosity. These elements, alongside time-specific symbols, coalesce into a depiction of the third Republic of Armenia—a long-cherished dream that feels both intimately close and, at times, psychologically distant, almost mythical. The Third of the Republics is Sargsyan's second book, following his award-winning debut collection, Chinese Wall. In 2019, Sargsyan received the RA President's Youth Award for this first work, cementing his place as a significant contemporary voice in Armenian literature.
