Description
This volume includes literary and journalistic reflections, editorials, and thoughts of Shavarsh Misakian, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Parisian daily "Harach" and a renowned publicist (Zimara village, Sebastia province, 1884-1957, Paris). His writings cover not only the years he headed "Harach" (1925-1957) but also his pre-genocide publicist work. Diaspora journalism is unimaginable without Shavarsh Misakian's nearly half-century of fruitful, highly beneficial, and meaningful activity for the preservation of Armenian identity. It is equally unimaginable and unknown to Armenian readers, and beyond. "If Ararat had a tongue, it would cry out... that even as a formidable rock, as a harsh mass of stone, it forms a part of the existence of the Armenian people. It stands firm with them and lives for them. It would explain... whether red or white, that it is both a symbol and a piece of land, because with its victorious and eternal body, with its very posture, it acts as a lighthouse for this people, girding and guiding them, inspiring and hardening them. And above all, it defines the homeland's, the territory's, perimeter. Indeed, the homeland of this people does not end at Ararat, as it does now, having the two Masis as its anchor, but expands and reaches as far as its formidable and inaccessible form extends..." Sh. Misakian "If Ararat Had a Tongue"
