The novel takes place in a oil well in the beginning of the nineteenth century in Baku and tells vividly the hardship and struggle of the oppressed workers to secure their survival. It carries the reader into the midst of the action as a silent and neutral character.
It describes the hesitant attempts to apply May Day demonstrations at the cost of their lives.
Although still going through the very beginning of the events, it seem difficult to drop it aside to replace with something else.
