About Hamastegh
Hamastegh, the pen name of Hambardzum Gelenian, was born in Perjench in the Ottoman Empire and emigrated to the United States before the First World War. He became an important literary voice of the Armenian diaspora.
His stories recreate the rhythms, characters, humor, and hardships of Armenian village life while also confronting loss and exile. With restrained prose and close observation, Hamastegh preserved a vanished world without reducing it to simple nostalgia.
