About Khachatur Abovyan
Khachatur Abovyan (1809–1848?) was an Armenian writer, educator, scientist, and advocate of modernization. Born in Kanaker, he studied in Echmiadzin, Tiflis, and Dorpat and joined Friedrich Parrot’s historic ascent of Mount Ararat.
His novel Wounds of Armenia, written in the spoken Eastern Armenian of his time, became a landmark in modern Armenian literature. Abovyan disappeared mysteriously in 1848, but his educational and literary influence endured.
