About Kostan Zarian
Kostan Zarian (1885–1969) was an Armenian poet, novelist, essayist, and cultural critic born in Shamakhi. Educated in Europe, he wrote initially in Russian and French before making Armenian his principal literary language.
A restless traveler and influential modernist, Zarian lived and taught across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Works such as The Ship on the Mountain join philosophical reflection, travel, exile, and the search for Armenian cultural identity.
