Avetik Isahakyan (1875–1957) was an Armenian poet, writer, and public figure. Born in Alexandropol, now Gyumri, he studied at the Gevorgian Seminary and later in Leipzig.
His first poetry collection, Songs and Wounds, established the lyrical voice that made him one of Armenia’s most beloved poets. His writing often explores love, longing, exile, injustice, and devotion to the homeland.
Among his best-known works are Abu-Lala Mahari, Lilit, Songs of the Haiduks, and numerous poems, legends, and stories. He returned permanently to Soviet Armenia in 1936 and became a major figure in its literary life.
