Grigor Narekatsi, also known as Gregory of Narek (c. 950–1003/1011), was an Armenian monk, theologian, musician, and poet associated with Narek Monastery near Lake Van.
His masterpiece, the Book of Lamentations, is a cycle of deeply personal prayers that joins confession, theology, poetic invention, and hope. It has shaped Armenian spiritual and literary life for centuries, and Narekatsi is venerated as a saint.
