About Hamo Sahyan
Hamo Sahyan (1914–1993), born Hmayak Grigoryan in the village of Lor in Syunik, was an Armenian poet and translator. He studied in Baku and served in the Soviet navy during the Second World War.
His first major collection, On the Edge of the Vorotan, appeared in 1946. Sahyan’s clear, musical poetry draws its imagery from Armenia’s mountains, rivers, villages, and changing seasons, making landscape a language of memory and belonging.
