Roald Dahl (1916–1990) was a British novelist, short-story writer, and screenwriter celebrated for imaginative children’s books with bold heroes, grotesque villains, and mischievous humor.

His best-known books include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, and The Witches. Dahl also wrote sharply plotted short stories for adults.
