Astrid Lindgren

Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002) was a Swedish author whose warm, inventive books transformed twentieth-century children’s literature. She created independent and unforgettable young characters while treating childhood with humor, seriousness, and respect.

Her best-known creations include Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, Karlsson-on-the-Roof, and the Brothers Lionheart. Her stories combine adventure and fantasy with courage, friendship, justice, and freedom.
