Georges Simenon

Georges Simenon (1903–1989) was a Belgian novelist who wrote in French and became one of the twentieth century’s most prolific authors. He is best known for the Inspector Maigret detective series.

The Maigret novels combine investigation with close attention to atmosphere, character, and social setting. Simenon also wrote stand-alone psychological novels about guilt, isolation, and desire.
