Claire, who lives in Europe, spends the summer in Tokyo with her grandparents. The more and more distant objective of this stay is to take them to Korea to reconnect with their country which they fled during the civil war more than fifty years ago. Claire divides her time between the Korean district of Tokyo, the grandparents' apartment and the world of little Mieko, whom she must take care of during the Japanese summer holidays. The precise and spare writing of Elisa Dusapin manages to immerse the reader in an intimate atmosphere of softness and hushed violence. She excels in describing the ambivalence specific to family relationships: the cruel misunderstandings like the love between the characters are powerfully accurate.
