The book was published as part of the "Fantastic" series. The previous book in this series was "The War of the Worlds" by the same author. "The Time Machine" is the first large-scale work whose main character travels through time. And the previous book, "The War of the Worlds," is the first book to depict an alien invasion of Earth. H.G. Wells is considered the founder of the science fiction genre. The next book to be published in the same series will be "The Invisible Man" by the same author.
