The central protagonists of the novel are four women- actresses, and the novel speaks with four different voices. The actresses start to lose their identity while playing the roles of their stage heroes. The novel tells the reader about the difficulties of being an actress which makes them victims of that profession. Irrespective of their social status, reputation and their place in society all the four actresses are doomed to be unhappy and deprived of love.
