Being a child is very difficult, as the book's hero, Greg Heffley, will attest. His and his close friend Raoul's adventures in middle school will not leave any child indifferent. They find themselves in all sorts of funny, comical, and strange situations. Author and illustrator Jeff Kinney introduces an unusual hero, Greg, in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," who writes in his diary: "Don't expect me to write all my 'emotions' or anything like that here. No way. No 'Hello, dear diary' or 'Hello, my diary'." Fortunately for us, what Greg Heffley writes and does are different things.
