Julian Barnes' novel "A History of the World in 10 ½ Chapters", published in 1986, is considered the first significant work of British postmodernism, although this strange and unique work is hard to call a novel. It is, in fact, a series of stories conceptually harmonized by so-called "sea" or "flood" themes.
