Description
Julian Barnes' novel "A History of the World in 10 ½ Chapters", published in 1986, is considered the first significant work of British postmodernism, although this strange and unique work is hard to call a novel. It is, in fact, a series of stories conceptually harmonized by so-called "sea" or "flood" themes. The events taking place in different eras also reveal different stylistic and artistic approaches: ironic plays on famous plots, subtle stylizations of medieval texts, realizations with unexpected solutions of the travelogue and detective genre, crazy transitions typical of utopia and antitopia... A novel where imagination really has no limits, a novel , where brand new possibilities of the genre are revealed.
