Mario Vargas Llosa's novel "Fierce Times" is a historical-political novel about political conspiracies and conspiracies, dictatorships specific to Latin American countries, and events developing in an unhealthy atmosphere, based on corruption, usurpation of power, corruption of morals, and human weaknesses. This novel, published in 2019 and translated into Armenian for the first time in the world, is a mixed story of international conspiracies and conflicting interests during the Cold War, in which episodes depicting the relationship between the superpowers and Latin American countries are described. The novel is based on the 1954 military coup organized by the CIA in Guatemala, the US regime, according to which Carlos Castillo Armas succeeds in overthrowing the government of Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz, accusing him of encouraging the entry of Soviet Communism in the continent at the behest of the US and the direct influence of the press. , in being communist and making Guatemala a satellite of Moscow. The big lie hidden under the scheme of violence, thanks to targeted propaganda and especially the press, is presented as the truth and fundamentally changes the future of Guatemala. This novel, flavored with documentary elements on the one hand, and artistic elements on the other, will not leave anyone indifferent.
