Description
The theme of strong but vulnerable women, which Narine Kroyan skillfully depicts in her previous novels, continues in this new work. The novel takes place over forty-four days, during the war. Sona, the heroine, has settled in Stepanakert with her husband in order to stay close to the place where their son is doing his military service. On the morning of September 27, 2020, the first day of the war, Sona and the other inhabitants are awakened by missile fire and bombings. Her husband rushes to the battlefield in search of their son. Unable to bear the wait, Sona also sets off in search of them. She is confronted with death, destruction, and atrocities, and finds herself faced with a difficult choice: she must think not only of her son engaged in the fighting, but also of her husband who has been taken prisoner. Adding to the family drama is Sona's unexpected pregnancy. Will she find her son? Will she manage to bring her husband back? What will happen to the characters of the novel on this day that will remain among the most tragic for Armenians, November 9?
