Gabriel Sundukyan is the founder of modern Armenian drama. Sundukyan's "Pepo" is a masterpiece of Armenian dramaturgy, one of the most staged works in Armenian theatres. It was translated and staged in Russian, Georgian, Azerbaijani, French,western Armenian. In his comedy «Khatabala» Sundukyan described the vices of bourgeois society, in which everything is for sale, the human being included, ruled by the kingdom of money, there's fraud and lie everywhere. Sundukyan wrote in the Armenian dialect of Tiflis.
